In 1966, we were all amazed and loved the whawha organ sounds that came out of a Leslie cabinate which only cost around 500 pounds THEN ! So the idea germinated about making one from things that you might find lying around. In fact Geoff might still have the completed project stored away somewhere :-)

1. First you and Paul D go to the back gate of a shop on Smithdown Road which has packing crates about the size of a Lesley Cabinate and surreptitiously carry it about half a mile to the previously mentioned cellar of 5 Arundel Avenue.
2. Carefully cut oblong holes in all for sides on the crate, about 10 inches from the top.

3 and 4. Then you destroy a perfectly fine Dansette record player and a 2 speaker Linea amp by removing the motor from the player and put the speakers and speaker board from the amp to one side for later. You MUST be brave !

5 adn 6. Next you need something like 14" drum kit cymbal (because it's rigid and has a hole in the middle). I can't recall (amongst many things) why the platter wasn't used. Fix the cymbal to the motor and build a frame onto the cymbal with 2 triangular pieces and 1 (approximate) square of thin ply-wood so that the sound is rotated through the holes that you made in the crate.

7. This is where the speakers and speaker board come into use. They must be fitted into the crate as high as they can be and they MUST be above the holes that you made. Replacing the crate lid will force the sound down onto the angled plywood and so out of the holes in the crate as it rotates.

Be assured that Bob Wooler will not like this being placed in the centre of the stage as you perform - but it did work !
